Itinerary Detail
Board a flight to Leh from Delhi airport. On arriving at the Kushok Bakula airport, Leh (3,500 m), meet our tour representative. Get assistance for a transfer to the hotel. Complete the check-in formalities as you savor your welcome drink and settle in your rooms. The day is for resting and getting acclimatized to the high altitudes of Ladakh. Acclimatization is necessary before any journey across this place. You can even walk up to the Leh bazaar in the evening to spot the hustle and bustle. Overnight stay in Leh.
On day 2 of your tour, post breakfast, get all set to visit Indus Valley and explore its major attractions. While driving from Leh to Indus Valley, enjoy the scenic vistas of Ladakh, which will leave you spellbound. During the sightseeing tour, you will visit some of the popular palaces and monasteries of the Ladakh region. Visit Shey Palace, located on a hilltop and was an abode of the royal family till 1834 AD. The Shey Monastery is located in the same complex as the palace. Both are located on the same hillock at 10 m high and house a copper statue of Lord Buddha.
After this, you will head towards Thiksey Monastery, 3600 m above sea level. It is renowned for resembling the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Thiksey Monastery is among the largest gompas in central Ladakh. Later, you will visit Hemis Monastery on the Indus River’s bank. The Gompa houses a museum with a vast collection of Tibetan books, murals, frescoes, Thangkas, gold statues, and Stupas embedded with precious stones. This is one of the highest motorable passes in the world from where you can enjoy the enchanting beauty of the valley. Then, after enjoying some time at one of the world’s highest mountain passes, proceed to Nubra Valley. On arrival, visit Diskit Monastery, the valley’s largest and oldest Buddhist Gompa. The monastery houses a 106-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha, seen from kilometers away. The monastery is renowned for its antique and exquisite murals, paintings, and frescoes of ancient times. Afterward, proceed towards Hunder Sand Dunes to indulge in Camel Safari. Enjoy the ride on the back of the Double Humped Camel that is also known as the Bactrian Camel. Drive through the Chang La mountain pass at 5,360 m above sea level. While driving towards the lake, drive through Durbuk and Tangtse villages and witness the daily activities of the locals. By the afternoon, you will arrive at Pangong Lake, the world’s highest saltwater lake. The lake extends up to 160 km between India and China.

You will visit Lamayuru and return to Alchi after the sightseeing tour. En route, you will visit Likir Monastery on the way to Lamayuru. The monastery is 3,700 m above sea level, and there are various statues of Maitreya Buddha, Bodhisattva, Amitabha, Sakyamuni, and Tsong Khapa in the prayer hall. The gompa has innumerable Thangkas, manuscripts, and a collection of earthen pots.
Visit Lamayuru Monastery, which is among Ladakh’s largest and oldest gompas. It houses almost 150 monks permanently. From the monastery, you can witness the moon-like landscape of Lamayuru, also known as Moonland. After spending some time here, you will head back to Alchi.
On arrival, you will have an assisted transfer to the hotel. Complete the check-in formalities and relax. Freshen up and then visit the Alchi Monastery, which is located on the bank of the Indus River. The monastery is divided into four separate settlements with monuments dating back to different times. Proceed for Leh by road and en route. Visit Rizong Nunnery on the rocky hilltop north of the Indus River. The monastery comprises the frescoes of Dharmaraja and other deities. The statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha is the assembly hall’s main attraction, providing the hall with a completely sacred atmosphere.
After a sightseeing tour of the monastery, proceed to Leh. En route, you will visit Magnetic Hill and Cyclops Hills. This point defines the phenomenon of gravity. Witness the magnificent phenomenon by parking your vehicle there and seeing the car going upward. Also, visit Sangam, a confluence point of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers. Then, visit the Military Hall of Fame, a museum constructed by the Indian Army to commemorate the brave Indian soldiers who fought for the country. The museum is divided into different sections, which contain several displays. There is a section named OP Vijay Gallery on the upper floor of the museum, and here you can see the various kinds of weapons used in the Kargil war, along with the various other arms and ammunition captured by the Indian Army during the war.
